Protest Placard Poster Competition in association with The Diesel School Of Island Life
COMPETITION HAS ENDED
Political sloganeering used to be the realm of overpaid 'creatives' who wear black rimmed glasses and play table football most of the time before doing lots of cocaine and churning out something like 'We're all in this together.'

Well times-they-are-a-changing because according to Radio 4 we are living in the Golden Age of the Placard, meaning everyone is coming up with their own political messages. This is probably due to the conjunction of two factors 1) there is loads to protest about at the moment as the living standards of the average person are going to hell in a handcart, while bankers wearing suits made of money look on and laugh 2) texting, instant messaging stuff like Whatsapp and Twitter have trained us to communicate in short form meaning we feel more able to say something which may cause one to LOL or LMMFWBAO.

See some examples of political word play and sloganeering here.
Come up with a political slogan using 140 characters or less. Imagine the slogan on a placard, so you should use bold type. If you do want to feature an image to support your slogan it is best to keep it simple. Remember an image may not be necessary.

The slogans should communicate a political message.

Some examples include: Yes We Can, Fight the Power, Nick Clegg We know You, You're a Fucking Tory Too and Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out, Out, Out.

One Flag brief

The One Flag

A First Things First Project

Design is at war with itself. We are taught that design is about finding solutions. But the success of these solutions is judged so narrowly – Did it ooze desire? Did it shift units? – that we find ourselves implicated in problems far greater than the ones we solve. The time has come for a radical shift in priorities. We are now faced with some of the most daunting global challenges in human history.
These are real targets, worthy of our problem-solving skills, ripe for our intervention. Yet those who have the vision to rise above national and political boundaries still have no symbol to rally under. We invite you to create a flag – free from language and well-worn clichés – that embodies the idea of global citizenship. A symbol that triggers pride and cohesion, whether worn on a backpack, displayed on a door, or flown on a flagpole. A symbol for anyone to declare membership in a growing and vital human cooperative. We invite you to prove that design has a real role to play in the fate of our world.

Tapirulan brief

  • Cultural Association Tapirulan, with the sponsorship of Centro Fumetto Andrea Pazienza, Associazione Illustratori and Sarmede – Paese della fiaba, is proud to announce the seventh edition of the contest for illustrators.

Purpose of the competition is to select the forty authors to be included in the exhibition «Gli illustratori di Tapirulan» (The illustrators of Tapirulan), to be held in Cremona (Italy) from December 3 2011 to January 29 2012. After Tony Wolf, Milo Manara, Silver, Sergio Toppi and Guido Scarabottolo, the jury is now directed by another famous cartoonist: Roberto Innocenti.

If it is put in a frame this should not be thicker than 3 millimetres. In case of a digital image it should be 31x31 centimetres (300 dpi – JPG format – best quality).

The theme is "privacy". Secret emotions and unconfessable thoughts. Private vices and public virtues. The right to the privacy collides with the irresistible curiosity.

No Nukes brief

No Nukes Posters Competition

  • Japan is currently facing an unprecedented crisis. Even now, one month after the earthquake, the situation at the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant remains critical. Unsurprisingly there is pollution within a 30km radius, where orders have been issued to evacuate or take shelter indoors, but for a while radioactive substances were also detected in tap water in Tokyo, over 200km away, with the Tokyo government distributing mineral water for infants. Further, TEPCO has detected low-level radiation in seawater, arousing fears in neighbouring countries.

We think now is the perfect opportunity to tell people that a society powered by natural energy is indeed possible. No Nukes Posters calls for submissions worldwide to broaden the dialogue of a post-nuclear movements.

    There are three themes:

    1. The depiction of the possibility of natural energy
    2. A system that enables a choice of electricity
    3. Any other appeal for a Post-Nukes society

In Japan, protests calling for a stop to nuclear power have started to spread. They could potentially become the biggest groundswell since the student movement of the sixties. We hope to see posters inspired by these protests.

There are basically no regulations on the contents of your work if you identify yourself with our aim.

Positive posters brief

Positive Posters 2011 Competition

  • Positive Posters provides a shared platform that encourages designers to be proactive in shaping important issues. We believe in the ability of design to inspire minds, change attitudes and spark revolutions.

The 2011 Positive Posters brief asks you to design a poster that highlights or exposes an issue specific to your own country, someone else’s or one that is international. It could be social, environmental or political; anything that you believe deserves a global audience and could be better seen or understood.

This is an opportunity for you to make a positive contribution towards an issue by presenting it to a global audience. We don’t want to tell you what’s important; we’d like you to tell us what’s important to you.
